In the Carol ‘in the bleak midwinter’ we sing the words’ …But His mother only, in her maiden bliss, Worshipped the beloved with a kiss.

What can I give Him, poor as I am?

If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;

If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;

Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart. ‘

It’s good to reflect on our Parish celebration of Christmas and notice the ‘gifts’ we are brought as we are able.

I am sure that all noticed how many people joined our Christmas Masses and also visited our churches outside of Mass times – this is the most fundamental gift we can give each other and the world which is so in need – the gift of a community gathered in prayer, gifting our precious time and hearts full of prayer to our Father who is waiting to hear our prayer and respond according to need.(Matthew 7:7-11).

I am sure that you also noticed the beauty that was particularly noticeable at this time in our churches and in our liturgy:

– the beauty of decoration: the decorations; the cribs and particularly the amazing flower arrangements. These involved the time of numerous people (from a wide age group) from our three communities;

– the beautiful singing and musical accompaniment – which was so joyful and uplifting;

– reading of Scripture texts so clearly and with clear understanding by Readers from a very wide age group;

– altar servers who supported me so prayerfully and negotiated all the additional liturgical actions that were required;

– welcomers who were attentive to all visiting our Parish;

– those who helped with all additional ministries requested of them at short notice

– our Sacristans who made sure our churches were prepared for our liturgies and Mases.

The giftedness of all was particularly evident at this time but is ongoing all year around.

My heartfelt thanks that you ‘did your part’ and that you very evidently ‘gave your heart’.

I am sure God will multiply our ‘gifts’ and make them fruitful beyond what we can imagine.

With prayers and gratitude, Fr Jacek
