The Catholic Bishops’ Conference has issued a Decree suspending all public liturgies from Friday evening 20 March 2020. This is because of the unprecedented times we are living through and the need to do all that we can to protect everyone, especially the most vulnerable and the elderly. Accordingly, the obligation to attend Holy Mass on a Sunday or on Holy Days of obligation is removed until further notice.
Baptisms, First Reconciliations/ Holy Communion, Confirmations and Matrimony are to be deferred wherever possible until such time that people can gather in numbers safety. Arrangements can however be made within boundaries for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and for funerals.
Fr Anthony will offer Mass each day (except Monday) without the faithful at the Church of St Augustine, Seaton. This continuing celebration will ensure that the faithful can join in spiritual communion with the priests of the Church. Mass will also be online from the Cathedral every morning at 11am and will be available through the Diocesan and Cathedral websites.
In addition, from Tuesday 24 March the Church of St Michael and St George at Lyme Regis will open for individual private prayer. Please continue to observe good hygiene practices if you visit the church.
Finally, please keep visiting our web page both in order to be associated with our attempts to provide help to those who are unable to move from their homes over this difficult period, and to keep yourself updated in these rapidly changing times.
With my prayers for you all
